THE PIP SERIES
Reef Rescue
The plastic is drifting down onto the coral. You have a net and three tries. Catch every piece before it reaches the reef.
How to play
Arrow keys slide your net along the bottom of the screen, and A and D do the same if you would rather play left handed. The spacebar casts it straight up, and whatever it reaches is caught and carried out of the water. Nothing gets smashed, because broken plastic is worse than whole plastic. The specks falling from above are microplastic. Hide behind the coral and they wear the coral away instead of you, or catch them in open water on the way up. Clear all fifty-five pieces and the next wave arrives, lower and faster than the last. Your net stays on its line, so there is only ever one cast in the water at a time — wait for it to come back before you throw again.
- Bottles · 30 points
- Small and quick. Hardest to catch, so they are worth the most.
- Six-pack rings · 20 points
- The ones that tangled Tuck. Catch these first if you can.
- Bags · 10 points
- Big and slow, but there are a lot of them.
- Recycling symbol · Mystery bonus
- Drifts across the top now and then. Nobody knows what it is worth.
- Microplastic · Beware
- The specks raining down from the plastic above. One touch and your turn ends, so keep the coral between you and it.
One player at a time. If two or more Ocean Defenders want to play, take turns. The top ten scores are shared with every Ocean Defender everywhere, so get your initials up there and see if anyone can beat you.
The real reef does not have a restart button.
Shell cannot reach the plastic before it goes in the water. You can. Make the pledge, print your certificate, and go pick up the first piece.

Sea Muncher
Drive the clean-up pod through the reef. Sweep up every scrap of debris while the plastic bags hunt you through the passages.
How to play
Arrow keys steer the pod, and so do W A S D. If you would rather spread your hands out, F goes left, J goes right, E or I go up, and V or N go down. Its intake opens and closes as it swims. Every warm-colored scrap you pass over is collected and hauled out of the water. Four plastic bags drift through the reef hunting you, each a different colour, each worth a different amount, and each one hunting differently, so watch how they move. Clear every last scrap and a new stretch of reef needs you.
Debris · 10 points
Bottle caps, straws and broken bits. Warm colours mean grab it.
Net · 50 points
Four of them, one in each corner of the reef.
Plastic bags · Avoid them
Four of them, each a different colour, and all of them hunting. One touch and your turn ends.
Blue bag · 100 points
The cheapest one to bag. Take it if it is in your way.
Green bag · 200 points
Worth stopping for.
Yellow bag · 300 points
Worth going after.
Red bag · 400 points
The big one. Chase this one first.
Bagging them · Double each time
Grab a net and the bags go see-through, which means you can catch them. The second one in the same net is worth double, the third double again. Get all four and that is the best run in the game.
When they go solid · Run
A see-through bag is safe. When it starts flashing back to solid colour your net is running out, so get away.
One player at a time. If two or more Ocean Defenders want to play, take turns. The top ten scores are kept, so get your initials up there while there is still room.
